LILLIAN AFEGABI

THE ONE WHO PAVES THE WAY FOR OTHERS

She’s the ex-Big Brother actress who sees herself a the next biggest producer in Nigeria. Her plan is to give up-and-coming actresses a break. Meet Lillian Afegabi.

I’ve always wanted to be an actor. Before I entered Big Brother, I was always going for auditions. So I think when I went for Big Brother, it made it a lot easier for me to succeed and get parts. I registered my company four, five years ago, then I just knew I wanted to produce but I was thinking more of my talk show. You always have to be ready so when the opportunity comes, you grab it, so I was like, ‘I know I want to do it, I’m going to start production soon’.

When I started acting, to be honest, I wanted to be able to give people a source of living, a source of livelihood. I want to be someone that people would say, “she made me, she gave me my first role”. I want to be able to impact lives. When you are producing you can employ people, I can employ other actors and upcoming actors as some people find it so hard to get into movies these days. For me, that’s enough fulfilment, when you can be part of someone’s success story. I have always loved production – that’s my endgame.

In five years, I probably might not be acting but I would be producing, I would be a filmmaker – that I can tell you. I would probably have a film school; I’ll have a film village! Those are things I really want to do.

What would I tell my 16-year-old self? I would tell her not to grow up so fast, it’s a trap!

I would also tell her to get close to God because to be honest, when I was young, I was a Christian but if at that time, if I served God the way I am serving God now I would be a billionaire! I would also tell her to never give up, to follow her dreams and keep focused.

Life inspires me because, everyday as I grow older, I face a lot of challenges and I see myself struggle sometimes and I still see myself get out of it. The fact that I’m alive inspires me, the fact that I can mess up today and stand up tomorrow and still be someone’s mentor inspires me.
