The debate is on! With this denim-on-denim affair becoming so prevalent of recent, it’s hard to say whether the population actually appreciate this once shunned style or are just following in the footsteps of our favourite designers (and of course celebs) who’ve been snapped repeatedly in their double denim glory.
From the likes of Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, this look has been a hit throughout AW14/15 and is set to continue this way well into SS15. Denim shirts, jackets, jeans, skirts, shorts, jumpsuits, playsuits – yes I could go on forever but you get the point. This trend is playful and practical, possibly more so when you aren’t in a pair of 6 inch killer heels. There are so many different combinations and pieces you can play with. So it’s no wonder why all these celebs can’t get enough of it when seen out and about or, dare I say, “running errands”.
Personally, I really quite like this trend. Although it is a very simple and casual look, it can be “Turnt up” and then all the way back down again by simply playing with different cuts, fits and silhouettes. As well as incorporating different textures and shades into the mix to break up the ‘block denim wall’ and give it a softer, more feminine look just like Olivia and Rihanna.
You can create your own denim ensemble by pairing distressed or ripped denim with a plainer co-ordinate denim piece, such contrasting is a key difference to a similar look that was trending in the early 2000s, (believe me, that look was a hot mess!) Tag Glam Africa when you post your creations and who knows, you may be out next Glam Diva of the Day.
