There has been much debate over singer-songwriter Alicia Keys’ choice to not wear makeup. She announced this to the world in her essay for Lenny Letter, stating
One of the many things I was tired if was the constant judgement of women […] Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking.
This balsy decision was seemingly set in stone when she turned up one day to do a photoshoot with photographer Poala Kudacki for her album featuring the popular ‘In Common’ after a gym work-out who wanted to shoot Keys’ as she was, bare and makeup free earlier this year. She went with the flow, wearing just her hair wrap and a dressed down outfit for the song’s music video.
Her most public appearances this year going make up free include the 2016 BETs as well as most recently, Sunday’s VMA 2016 awards, however the 15-time Grammy winner has been getting some whiplash over the decision to go bare to these otherwise glamourous events.
She has turned the other cheek, responding lovingly and accepting that no makeup is not for everyone, showing her fans her goal is not to shame others, just embrace herself.
Alicia Keys and the “no makeup movement” is annoying and imaginary .

Alicia starting a no makeup movement would have been cooler when she was at the height of her career and didn’t have nearly perfect skin.

With all the pressures of everyday society on women and appearances what do you think about going make-up free? Would you try it?
