Its only 24hrs to this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMA) and there’s no doubt our favourite celebrities are spending their Friday gearing up for the red carpet. As well as looking forward to the winners, awaiting the great music performance for the night, we are also very excited about what we’ll be seeing on the red carpet this year.
In our excitement, we spoke to celebrity stylist Afua Rida.
What current trends can we expect the celebrities to bring to the red carpet this year?
I necessarily think we can predict the trends. There aren’t conciliatory red carpet collections and so we more or less custom make these gowns, tailored to fit the taste of the celebrity or the designer. What I do see often are he lace dresses, some sequin, long trains and the ball gowns.
And for men?
I expect the men to be more adventurous, mixing prints, traditional native wear etc but I do hope they do better with the fitting of their suits.
What daring looks/trends would you like to see on the red carpet?
I would love to see more creative gowns, thought out of the box. Experimenting with different t fabric and keeping the styles as simple as possible. I do look forward to seeing what Joselyn Dumas, Nana Akua-Addo Adomaa, Bella Mundi will be wearing.
What previous red carpet fashion mistakes would you hate to see at this year’s event?
I definitely do not want to see the sheer lace nude dresses that give the bare skin illusion. It is cute but quite overdone now. If the celebrities do decide to got he lace route like always, they could turn to more on trends lace fabrics.
What was your favourite VGMA looks last year?
Definitely Adomaa’s red carpet gown by Christie Brown. I also liked her performance outfit. Both looks were perfect for her brand and her body type.
