Italian fashion company, Gucci through it Chime for Change campaign partners American pop superstar, Beyoncé and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This partnership is to provide clean water to children of Burundi in East Africa on World Water Day which falls on March 22, 2018.
In honour of the day dedicated to highlighting the importance of the provision of fresh water, Gucci donated $1million to Beyoncé’s BeyGood4Burundi – an extended philanthropic appendage of BeyGOOD. Beyoncé founded BeyGood4Burundi with UNICEF in 2017 to make water accessible and improve on sanitation in Burundi. According to UNICEF, the donation will help construct about 80 water sources in the country.
Provision of safe water certainly means the battle against chronic malnutrition and waterborne disease faced by children and women in the world will see a decline. Also, children won’t have to wake up early to walk long distances to collect water before school.
Happy World Water Day, let’s continue to keep out water bodies clean and safe.
