Becoming: Michelle Obama sits with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Michelle Obama might have ended her reign in the White House but her voice is still as loud as ever and still respected by people of all backgrounds. The rush for her now hottest selling memoir, Becoming, started almost instantly when it hit the shelves and was amplified when the former First Lady announced a Book Tour in the United States and other parts of the world, to engage with different audiences and share more gems from the memoir.

As soon as the details for the London tour were released and it was revealed that she planned to have a one-on-one conversation with best-selling and record-breaking Nigeria novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, it came as no shock that the queue to grab tickets to the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank to hear sit in the same room as two global power houses, it was a tooth and nail fight to secure a spot. We know because our Chief Editor, Afua Adom has the battle scars to prove it.

However, with all the tickets issues put aside, the day came (December 4, 2018) for Michelle Obama to have that conversation with Chimamanda in front of many enthusiastic fans including politicians, fashionistas, celebrities like Adwoa Aboah, Michaela Coel, to mention but a few. Michelle who was introduced by Chimamanda with Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys playing at the Background was clad in a classy white flared jumpsuit that depicted every inch of her regality.

And for the next hour, Michelle spoke vividly about the inspiration behind the book which has details of family, love life, marriage, prejudice against people of colour and a whole lot more. From the look of things, we need a copy, a cup of coffee and a weekend to read this memoir full of knowledge shared by an icon.
