Last week marked the end of the frst quarter of 2019 and we celebrated it on Thursday 27th March by hosting our Think Smart #LevelUp Event at the Huckletree West in White City, London.

This event launched our latest magazine issue also titled Think Smart, which brought our readers tips and advice on new ways of living and being smarter in 2019. From money management to shopping and lifestyle apps, we packed the event with immense boosters.

Think Smart #LevelUp was a entrepreneurial networking event for the audience to hear from experts, brand owners and influencers to gain tips and industry insight from leaders in various industries.

Through panel discussions, keynote speakers and masterclasses, we sought out to empower our UK audience to level up for the rest of 2019 with the help of our fabulous host, T0ni T0ne, Content Creator and online talk show host from ‘Heels Off’, who effortlessly moderated all the panel discussions and interviews with brand owners.

Think Smart also brought insight from influencers and experts within the African/Caribbean community to equip guests with knowledge on how to excel in their chosen fields/careers and side hustles. The event opened up with an amazing panel on innovation. The speakers were Darren Tenkorang – Founder of UK’s first Mobile Barbering App Trim It, Janet Oganah and Adonica Simmons – hosts of ‘Making Money Moves’ Podcast and Sahra Bashir-Mohamed – Founder of SkinMama & Impact Data Analyst at YSYS  (Your Startup, Your Story). They each brought a wealth of knowledge through discussing how they had gone against the grain in their business/industries and shared tips on how to raise capital for start up businesses.

The second Panel focused on developing a lifestyle business and personal brand with speakers Wunmi Bello – Radio Personality & Presenter, Corrine Hayford-Kwatchey – Founder of Luxury Skincare Brand Kora Naturals, Joy Adenuga – Award Winning Makeup Artist and Hannah Ayegbusi – founder of Honey Hand Salon. Each speaker gave practical advice on how to grow in their industry and stay relevant in this social media age. All the advice was useful and highly beneficial to audience members working within the beauty and lifestyle sector.

Our aim to ensure that all guests went away with a plethora of knowledge, including in other areas like property investments and balancing a 9-5 as an entrepreneur, which was covered in a breakout session with content creators Timi & Ife Dorgu. The event also offered a finance masterclass with Newinton Consulting to provide attendees with accounting and bookkeeping information for self employed individuals and new business owners.

Other brands who shared insight on overcoming obstacles in business were Molewa Skincare, Dao London and Nubian Galore. The audience were provided with insight on how each CEO founded their brand and were given gems on what to look out for as an entrepreneur. Also a Marketing representative from Lunette spoke about the importance of discussing menstrual cycles and the work they are doing to fight period poverty in the African community.

SASH London also joined us to provide guests with useful information on sexual health.

To end the night, singer Ruth-Ellen graced the stage to perform some soulful tunes. Think Smart #LevelUp was a great end to the first quarter of the year to introduce attendees to successful businesses and personalities within the community but to also help guests to realign their goals for this year.
