The Twenty- and thirty-something’s have been dubbed the Millennial Generation. The term Millennial generally refers to the generation of people born between the early 1980s and 1990s. A 2012 study by USA Today found Millennial’s to be “more civically and politically disengaged, more focused on materialistic values, and less concerned about helping the larger community.”

The trend is more of an emphasis on extrinsic values such as money, fame, and image, and less emphasis on intrinsic values such as self-acceptance, group affiliation and community.” The study was based on an analysis of two large databases of 9 million high school seniors or entering college students.

However, it hasn’t been all bad; we have also been described in positive ways as being more open-minded, and more supportive of gay rights and equal rights for minorities. Other positives adjectives to describe us include; confident, self-expressive, liberal, upbeat and receptive to new ideas and ways of living.

However, millennial’s live in confusing times. We have been ushered into adulthood at a time when careers aren’t what it used to be. Our educational qualifications are mundane. We are pressured to attain new age digital skills to have a fighting g chance in a highly competitive environment.

We are forced to love digitally, pressured to equate friendship with public display of affection. Everything around us is constantly changing and no one equipped us for this change. I’ve had several conversations with friends who have disclosed how difficult it is trying to keep up on a daily especially when it seems like everyone else around you is doing so well.

I’ve captured ten voices of fellow millennial’s to let you know that we see you and you are not alone.

  1. “At the end of the day You are the only accountable to yourself, so why try to please everyone?” -Chinasa

  2. “Life doesn’t give you what you deserve. It gives you what you demand.” -Anointing

  3.  “Find what gives you joy, keep learning on it and ignore the rest. You will hit your target in no time. ” -Ben

  4. “Like a roller coaster ride; this adulting business. Hang in there though, it does gets better.” -Jennifer

  5. Motivation might seem to elude you, Don’t forget you alone are enough motivation to yourself. Cynthia

  6.  Choosing everyday to believe in yourself even when you don’t feel like it. Adanna

  7. Do what makes you happy, sleep better and laugh louder – just live. Buike

  8. Having ambition is great! Just don’t create one because someone said you need to. Beatrice.

  9. Coming from this part of the world where most of our voices aren’t heard, the least we can do is to speak to the nearest soul and make sure the chain doesn’t break. Ngozi

  10. Be comfortable with your body size and your skin. You’re beautiful just as you are. Summer
