The British Hairdressing Awards, also known as the Oscars of hairdressing, has inducted Ghanaian-born UK Afro-hair salon owner, Charlotte Mensah, into its Hall of Fame this year and we are about ready to start a slow clap!
Mensah expressed her excitement after being inducted into the Hall of Fame, a surprisingly long-overdue achievement for a black woman, making her the first to gain such recognition, ”I hope that I can act as an inspiration to the younger generation who might want to get into hairdressing – to show that anything is possible if you stay focused, work hard and follow your gut. Being able to fly the flag for afro and natural hair textures in the UK is such a huge privilege – it’s greatly rewarding to be recognised and celebrated by my peers.”, says Mensah with her trophy at hand.
With tall list clients that range from celebrities including Janelle Monae, Erykah Badu, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to the general public who is lucky enough to have her touch their hair, she maintains her core-value for giving everyone that walks into her salon the best natural look before leaving. She deserves all the congratulatory messages!
Well done Charlotte Mensah!
