In commemoration of Black History Month, British top model Naomi Campbell has teamed up with Apple Music for a playlist on Afrobeat.
The playlist features music from Nigerian Afrobeat musicians who have established their names on the music scenes. Hence, well-established names like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido are paired with the newest talents like Zlatan, Naira Marley, Fireboy DML, and several others.
Campbell has made known her love for Africa and to see the continent develop in the creative space. From fashion, music, to movies, she has been active with several projects on the continent as well.
She explained the reason for the playlist and why it’s made of Afrobeat songs. ”Afrobeats makes me feel happy whenever I hear it. People just go to another level; it makes you want to dance and move. Burna Boy’s ‘Anybody’ and Wizkid’s ‘Joro’ are songs that give me feelings I can’t get elsewhere. I love the sound of ‘Anybody.’ I love the live sound of the band and Burna’s voice on top of it. It’s a new sound but it sounds like live music, which is rare these days. I’m all about rhythm and bass, and I love the slow build of ‘Joro.’ It’s a sexy, deep, sensual song like it’s moving forward to reveal something from inside,” she said.
Black History Month is celebrated each year to remember important people and events that have happened and impacted the lives.
