It gladdens our hearts to see the overwhelming reception for Black Panther across the world. For a movie that truly celebrates black excellence to have that kind of atmosphere just goes to say, the time is right to tell the African story differently.
Marvel Studios set the story in a fictional black nation called ‘Wakanda’ with stunning waterfalls, protected by a hologram that hides outside cities from seeing its capital city, ruled by King T‘Challa known as Black Panther – played by Chadwick Boseman, who is being challenged by rival groups.
The premiere of Black Panther has taken place in various African countries, Kenyans held theirs at Kisumu – the hometown of Lupita Nyong’o, She played a major role in the movie. Even though she could not make it, her father, Peter Nyong’o and her older sister, Zawadi Nyong’o joined attendees to watch it.
Black Panther was officially released globally on Friday, February 16, 2018, and has been shown in other Africa countries like Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and more. Lupita Nyong’o and co-cast member – Danai Gurira attended the premiere in Johannesburg, South Africa.
