English–American filmmaker of Nigerian descent David Oyelowo will star as the President of the United States in a forthcoming drama series produced by Showtime.
The series is titled The President Is Missing, based on a novel written by former US Presiden Bill Clinton and James Patterson, adapted by oscar award-winning filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie, and Anthony Peckham, who will executive produce the series alongside David Oyelowo.
David Oyelowo confirmation means Showtime now has the green light to start shooting which is set to commence in 2020, already the pre-production stages phase of the series is in progress. In The President Is Missing, a powerless Vice President becomes the President halfway through his first term in office. Threats and attacks coming from friends within and enemies are among the first issues he is faced with as the new President, will he follow diplomatic process in solving these problems or he will take alternative but stubborn route.
“David brings such enormous depth, sensitivity and power to every role he plays,” said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment at Showtime Networks. “Having him as our lead ensures that our series will have the exhilarating suspense of a political thriller along with the juicy complexity of a character drama.”
David is also set to make his feature directorial debut with The Water Man, which is produced by Oprah Winfrey.
