African is becoming the new light of the world, Ebonee Davis is pushing and emphasizing on that through fashion.
Everything from the continent, from music, movies, fashion and several more are eventually gaining the world’s attention. Davis’ has over the years fell deeply in love with the African culture via her root.
Davis was born in the United States, but it’s her upbringing and gravitation towards Africa that had led her to start creating a new path. During her visit to Ghana (her country of origin) in 2019, a year that the country celebrated The Year Of Return, she made the much-needed connection with the country. Hence, she teamed up with Essence to work on a shoot at the Arts Center, Accra. Using the Ankara Print, which she developed heightened love for over the years. And returning to the country makes it easier for her to build and bond easily.
She told Essence, the colourful atmosphere that surrounds the way Africans wore the Ankara Print, hence making them look beautiful and perfect, “All I could think was, Africans are so fly,” Davis says. “Everything is made to fit their body. Everyone has matching headpieces.”
Davis caught the eye of the world with her stunning natural Afro hair in the Calvin Klein campaign and the viral message on “Black Girl Magic in the Fashion Industry” at TEDTalk. After visiting Ghana, she is using her platform to encourage other Africans to return home as well.
