Fela Kuti is an icon of the Afrobeat genre, he is credited as one of the legends that pushed the genre to mainstream music.
Many West African musicians especially Nigerians have held him in high esteem for the contribution he made to the genre. He started paving the way for the genre to be also consumed outside West Africa with different shows around the world. Fela Kuti built a respectable image through his music, his writing skills and focus on national issues also fetched him fans.
Partisan and Knitting Factory Records announced for the first time that the official website for the Afrobeat singer has officially be launched. The announcement came with another good news, which has to do with the re-release of his 80’s classic album, Music Of Many Colours.
”Bringing together such a gifted team of creators to build this ultimate, all-singing, all-dancing tribute to my friend is a source of immense pride and satisfaction. As is always the case with any enterprise involving Fela, it goes above and beyond people simply exercising their professions and becomes a labor of love for all involved”, his former manager, Rikki Stein said.
A quick scan of the website. revealed most of the concert, collaborations, albums and fans moments that the late Fela Kuti had while he as alive. Fans have been presented with the opportunity to get direct update on the works of the singer.
Each year, Felabration is organized to celebrate his memory, musicians from Nigerian and other parts of the globe climb the stage to perform and pay homage to him.
