The Afro Hair and Beauty Live Show took place at the end of May and this year for the first time Glam Africa was a media partner. The expo is always a great experience but this one was even better!
Well known and loved companies alongside unique homemade brands displayed their products over two days giving out a variety of testers to hair and beauty enthusiasts to try and experiment for themselves. From the brands exhibiting, to the fashion show and panel discussions there was something for everyone. Not only did you get to meet and interact with your favourite brands, guests came away with a wealth of knowledge on hair, beauty and skincare products.
We collaborated with Haiti 73 Agency to host and curate talks throughout both days in the Lifestyle Corner. There was a press conference with the fashion designers held by our Chief Editor Afua Adom. We went behind the scenes to see models, MUA’s, and Hairstylists and spoke to the brands showcasing the best African designs. From the prints to the fabrics we loved every second of the fashion show! All the colour couldn’t help but get us in the mood for summer and we can’t wait to see how African print will be worn this year!
Glam Africa booked some amazing influencers to work with at Afro Hair & Beauty Live. They were Fashion & Lifestyle Influencer Breeny Lee, Beauty Influencer: Mariam Musa, Hair & Beauty Influencer: Shantania Beckford.
On Day one, Beauty guru Shantania Beckford conducted a live make up demonstration where she showed us how she does her everyday make up look and gave us some make up tips. It was so informative that we had to take notes, our make up routines haven’t been the same again! During Shantania’s talk, skincare brand R&R Luxury provided a demo on Shantania’s hands using their Liquid Black Soap. Shantania was so lucky she left with skin softer than a baby’s bottom!
Later on we got to have a live chit-chat with Shantania to find out about the lady behind the camera. And you can trust that we definitely got up close and personal, but Shantania was a treat to interview and we really feel like we’re here BFFS now!
Our live hair tutorials with Breeny Lee and Mariam Musa were great, our stunning influencers were the hair demo models.
We partnered with All Shades Covered who provided the hair and Hair Stylist Grace Winks who pre-made the wig units.
For Breeny Lee’s demo, we worked with celebrity stylist Schola Rose from Kercare who fitted and styled Breeny’s sharp bob in the Lifestyle corner. Schola gave us a run down on how she straightens and maintains short hairstyles but also how to look after your wigs to make them last longer! By the time Schola had finished that wig was laid and we were all talking about getting bobs for the summer. The demo was followed by a short Q&A session with Breeny Lee on all things hair where she told us all about her favourite hairstyle this season and why she shaved her head last summer.
Mariam Musa’s wig demonstration was handled by the talented Mary of Papachichistyle with her assistant Funmi. Mary installed the unit live by giving us a step by step on how she lays a frontal wig from beginning to end, and what can we say she slayed that wig! Mary and Funmi delivered an excellent talk on the difference between closures and frontals, how to step up your frontal game to make it look more natural, whilst taking questions from our live Instagram audience.
Glam Africa’s Jacqueline Ilumoka hosted the Literature Talk with Natalie Daycreator, Amberline Green, June Sarpong & Yemi Adogoke where we discussed art, black women in publishing and the struggles of making your voice heard as an upcoming creative.
We interviewed Breeny Lee and Mariam Musa on all things influencer friendly. We spoke about fashion and beauty trends, relationships & where they wanted to be in 5 years time. The guests loved the Q&A and we had so much fun with our influencers.
Shantania Beckford, Breeny Lee and Mariam Musa got to meet and discover new brands around the event including Kitoko Cosmetics, R&R Luxury, Ors, KeraCare, Kol Cosmetics, Josh Hair and Beauty, Voeux Lash, Mielle Organics, Sheer Chemistry, Future Q & K, Palmers UK and many more!
