The 2019 edition of Best Of Africa Awards took place on October 6th at Rosewood London.
The Best of Africa awards is an event held annually, in London bringing together some of the most influential members of African diaspora living and working in the United Kingdom. The event is known for honouring Africans plying their trades in the United Kingdom and within Africa.
Winners at this year’s edition were honoured for their contributions in lifting and maintaining a sound image of Africa.
In entertainment, British Ghanian grime star Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Jr. a.k.a Stormzy , picked an award for his role in offering scholarships to brilliant but needy black students in the United Kingdom. Nana Richard Abiona Fuse ODG won the Advocacy Award. The UK-Based Ghanaian Afrobeat star was honoured promoting Africa through his music and his fashion endeavours. He has also started his own festival in Ghana called TINA Festival. The Tina Featival brings African musicians both home and abroad together on one stage to perform to a mixed audience of locals and diasporans.
Ivorian and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha also won an award for his charity work in Côte d’Ivoire and his contribution to the improvement of football at women’s football clubs in Crystal Palace. Current Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) General Secretary General and Delegate for Africa Fatma Samoura was also honoured with the History Maker award. This was presented to her by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand. Fatma Samoura is the first African female Muslim to occupy her position at FIFA since 2016 and has done so much to make football attractive to again. Eniola Aluko also joined the winners after she picked an award for her philanthropic works.
The Best Of Africa Awards event was also attended by Chelse Football Star N’Golo Kante.
