After months of waiting for the Markerad collection designed Virgil Abloh for Swedish furniture brand, Ikea, it has finally arrived.
Markerad Collection hit stores on November 1, 2019, reports suggest many fans of the designer and the fashion brand queued at the London store to buy their favourite items from the collection. Most of the items were designed based on Virgil’s conceptualization of the basic homewares including items like a toolkit, doormats, clocks, tables, chairs, pillows, mirror, bag, a Mona Lisa lightbox, shelving unit, chaise lounge etc.
Virgil Abloh and Ikea added extra-values on aforementioned items that could be used, he stated that he wants the doormats to serve other purposes as opposed to its initial use at homes. It could be hanged on walls as well, hence the effort put in making the one found in the Markerad collection, also he added that the chair was designed from his childhood designing adventure where he used to make chairs and other stuff from any scrap materials at home.
The designs also have Ikea’s signature of creating items that could easily fit in any space at all but mainly targetting students who are now moving into their own places, with this collection.
The celebrated designer has also returned to work at Louis Vuitton after taking several months off to attend to his health. Virgil took the fashion industry by storm with his Off-White fashion brand, created to unite streetwear and high fashion.
