’Break the Cycle’ Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex takes a stand against gender-violence in South Africa, as part of her tour of the country.

As part of her tour of Southern Africa with Prince Harry, The Duchess of Sussex ’Meghan Markle’ has been staying in South Africa on her ten-day leg tour whilst Prince Harry carries out other humanitarian duties in Botswana, Angola and Malawi. The Duchess of Sussex used this opportunity to meet with women right activists and politicians to help tackle recent rampant violence against women. It’s violence that has led to a viral hashtag #AmINext being shared across social media.

This was as a result of 19-year-old Cape Town student, Uyinene Mrwetyana who was kidnapped, tortured, raped and her body dumped. The Duchess of Sussex made it her point to privately visit the site were the incident happened, to pay homage and increase awareness against violence and abuse of women in South Africa.

Royal social media accounts reported the visit of Meghan to the site of the murder with the word “Simi kunye kulesisimo” which translates to ’We stand together in this moment’.
