Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Oluwatosin Ajibade, known in showbiz as Mr Eazi shared his views on the growth of the genre, his style of music and the sponsoring the new generation of African creatives.
Speaking to OkayAfrica’s Moments With, the singer explained his style of music which he called Banku Music – a fusion of different rhythms from Ghana and Nigeria to form his own Afrobeat rhythm that has helped him win the hearts of music enthusiasts in the world.
Mr Eazi has a smashing hit single Skin Tight in 2015 featuring Ghanaian neo-soul singer Efya, which elevated his work to the apex of the music chain in Ghana and Nigeria before crossing borders to other African countries and eventually taking over the globe. However, the success of that song and subsequent ones started from the belief from friends who gathered money to support his music which he considers as a commodity that he could sell.
Before authoring Accra To Lagos and Lagos To London albums, Mr Eazi was on a comfortable cruise as a serial entrepreneur, hence, after the getting the attention of the world through music, Mr Eazi is pushing other budding talents to also gain that prominence on the music map through his Empawa initiative, which he spoke about at length via the interview.
