Part of telling our own narratives to elevate us to the global dominance we have always dreamt of as Africans is having a seat at the table and being part of the narrative. Africans the world over are contributing to building a solid continent for the next generation, and the recent appointment of former finance minister of Nigeria Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to join the decision makers at micro-blogging platform, Twitter forms an integral part of the journey.
Ngozi who has served as finance minister of Nigeria between 2003 and 2006 and several other positions in the financial sector, will be walking into the Twitter board meetings on regular basis to add her experience in the field to the company. Taking critical decisions that will benefit the company, it’s a plus for the world of social media as a whole, to have an African as part of the conversation.
She made a strong statement about global connection using platforms like Twitter in her acceptance words saying; “Twitter is a powerful platform that continues to be used as a strong connector for the global community, and I’m thrilled to be a part of the team. As we strive to build a better world for tomorrow, Twitter can amplify messages and drive critical conversations around today’s most important issues. I look forward to partnering with Twitter’s talented directors and leadership team as we work to leverage the power of Twitter for good.”
Furthermore, Ngozi’s vast knowledge extends from her qualifications as a Ph.D holder from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an A.B. from Harvard University. We are excited about this and we hope you are too! Let’s keep writing our own narratives.
