The Currency of Black Beauty!

Black women spend seven times more on beauty and haircare than their white counterparts, yet how much does this value translate back into their pockets, brands or businesses?

From inspirational talks on ‘representation matters’ to a host of independent black owned female brands, Shades of Beauty LIVE 2019 prepares to celebrate the rise of ‘Black Girl Currency’, and you’re invited!

Following a successful inaugural show, the founders of Shades of Beauty LIVE (the exhibition for women of colour, by women of colour) are on a mission to ensure black women know their worth. Returning to the iconic Lindley Hall in Westminster on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September the event will feature over 50+ exhibitors and sponsors, including new brands with an exclusive online presence only, enabling visitors the opportunity to meet, sample and shop with them in person.

This year’s agenda has been split into three categories. Owing to last years success the main stage will be called the ‘Inspire’ and will cover a wide range of emotive topics from Coloursim to representation matters including a keynote from Beverley Knight MBE, Shingai Shoniwa, Vanessa Sankuye, Erica Matthews and celebrity make up artist Lori Bee MUA. In addition there will be a makeup stage and hair stage presenting professional tips and key takeaways.

The first event achieved over 1.5 million impressions online and coverage in national and regional media. BBC News reported, “We are at the UK’s first Black Beautycon!”

Sue Omar from the Evening Standard said – “Women of colour are finally being seen, heard and celebrated on the main stage.”

Co-founder and organiser Christina Adesina said, “The gender pay back has received a lot of attention in recent years but we still need to address the race pay gap. The Shades of Beauty LIVE community has provided feedback on the disparity between black female influencers being paid less than their white counterparts, despite having similar or more followers and engagement. Beauty and fashion brands must continue to work with the community on all levels not just as consumers but also as business women.”

You can purchase tickets to the show on their website www.shadesofbeautylive.com or if you are signed up to eventbrite search for ‘Shades of Beauty LIVE’ and grab your ticket.
