South Africa's Thebe Magugu Has Become The First African Design To Pick The LVMH Prize

After several weeks of waiting on who to be announced by the Parisian fashion powerhouse LVMH as the winner for the 2019 prize, an African has picked it.

Thebe Magugu, a South Africa fashion design who was given the nod to be part of the finalist won the final prize in a special ceremony held at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The award show was in the presence of artistic directors from Houses of the LVMH group, Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior), Nicolas Ghesquière (Louis Vuitton),  Kris Van Assche (Berluti), Clare Waight Keller (Givenchy), and Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Sidney Toledano.

He walked home with the main cash prize of €300,000 and a year mentoring program from LVMH team in the field of intellectual property, sourcing, production distribution, image, communication, marketing and sustainable development.
