Mary Martin’s remarkable craft in designing showcased at the Merceded Benz International Fashion Week 2015 in Accra Ghana, once again graces the runway at the just ended African Fashion Week London.
The dress in black, according to Mary Martin, was inspired by the late Cecil The Lion to whom she decided to make the dress in black out of mourning for Cecil.
“When I saw the lion on the TV I was deeply deeply shocked,” said designer Mary Martin to the BBC World Service.
The big fluffy bits along the top is the tulle, which is the lion’s mane… Different textures of tulle which I’ve attached to the dress. The back has got the silkiness and fineness of the lion’s body”
Mary Martin is a self-taught award winning fashion designer setting fearless trends and taking Africa by storm. Mary is still studying fashion in London and was honoured as the best designer in Africa.
