American actress of Kenyan descent, Lupita Nyong’o and South African Comedian/host of Daily Show, Trevor Noah are preparing to hit the cinemas with the adaptation of the latter’s memoir ‘Born A Crime’.
Lupita has signed on to play Trevor’s mother, Patricia from the memoir. We have gathered also that she will co-produce the movie in collaboration with Trevor’s Ark Angel Productions, and Mainstay Entertainment.
With the kind of reputation the Oscar-winning actress has built for herself in the industry, this could mean, we are about to see an epic production. Director for the film hasn’t been revealed yet, but we are sure, that will come out soon.
‘Born A Crime’, a 304-page autobiographical comedy book, written by Trevor Noah and originally published in 2016. He provided detailed information on his childhood during the apartheid era in South Africa. The book was on the bestseller list for 26 weeks and has fetched James Thurber Prize for American Humor and two NAACP Image Awards for Trevor Noah.
‘When I read Trevor Noah’s “Born A Crime,” I could not put the book down. Excited to announce that I will be starring in and producing its feature film adaptation!‘ – Lupita wrote on her Instagram page.
In Trevor’s confirmation on his Instagram page, the 34-year-old comedian expressed his delight to see Lupita play his mother in the upcoming movie;
‘My mom is a powerful woman who could easily be one of the beautiful soldiers in Wakanda. So it’s beyond a perfect fit that she would be portrayed on the big screen by the radiant and regal Lupita Nyong’ o. I’m beyond excited.‘
Meanwhile, Lupita, 34, is currently enjoying all the great reviews around the globe from the record-smashing movie by Marvel Studios ‘ Black Panther’.
