Internationally recognized singer, song writer and humanitarian, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, would be receiving the BET International Global Good star and Power awards, BET reveals.
Reacting to the news on her twitter handle, the songwriter exclaimed, “Now is the time for Africa”.
The South-African was one of the first black child to ever appear on South-Africa’s National Television, and was carefully selected by Nelson Mandela as the first Ambassador of his Children’s Fund Organization.
A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Yvonne currently champions Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and is the United Nations MDG Envoy for Africa. She has also been a recipient of the WEF Crystal award, 100 most influential women in the world and 8th most powerful African.
Other notable awards of the evening are a Humanitarian award, which would be received by Grammy-award winning Hip hop star, Chance the Rapper ;to be presented by Walmart, and a Lifetime Achievement award, which the popular group, New Edition, would be going home with.
Performers such as Trey Songs, Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, is set to take Black Entertainment by storm.
The event would be hosted by Leslie Jones, and would take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on June 25, and will be aired two days later on June 27.
