Miss South Africa 2019 Zozibini Tunzi has asked the country’s men to write love letters to women to support the fight against femicide and other gender-based violence.
The queen pledged that as part of her social responsibility after winning the coveted crown in August, she labelled her new campaign – ‘He For She‘. It’s a partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), which inspires men to step up and join the fight to bring an end to abuse on women in South Africa.
Zozibini Tunzi became the first South African queen to wear the new crown designed by American Swiss, and other local jewellery designers, the crown symbolises ‘The Beauty of the rainbow’, which translates in a local dialect as ‘Ubuhle bethingo lenkosazana.’
Almost all the messages that will be received from South African men during the campaign will be inscribed onto ribbons that will form part of her costume for the forthcoming Miss Universe beauty pageant to be hosted in the United States.
“In what will be a first, I will literally take SA with me to Miss Universe. I will wear a wave of love from men in the form of love letters celebrating and honouring the women of this country,” she said.
